Photographing animals in action is also one of my passions. Sheep herding trials, team calf roping, dog agility trials as well as the ever entertaining antics of our flock of wool sheep make up another segment of my photographic portfolio. |

Technical Stuff
I shoot with a 35mm Canon system including Canon lenses ranging from a wide angle 24mm to 400mm telephoto. My preferred film is Fuji Velvia ISO 50 for my nature photography... which means I'm almost always on a tripod. When needed I utilize a Singh-Ray graduated neutral density filter, polarizer or other warming/enhancing filters.
All my transparencies are scanned with a Nikon Super Coolscan 4000 film scanner which gives a 4000 dpi scanned resolution and yields a 60 megabyte file from a 35mm original. Then they are printed on Epson premium glossy photo paper using an Epson 1280 inkjet printer and only Epson inks. Other than the images identified as "Photo Illustrations", I do not manipulate the color balance during the scanning or printing process beyond what I saw in the viewfinder. My goal is to hold to the nuances and mood of the original scene as closely as possible.
The images that are described as Photo Illustrations have been digitized, and then various filters used, to achieve their unique look. However, all began as film transparencies and do not differ in essence from the original image other than the filtering effect. For example, the Tree Light image on the home page is the unaltered image. The Tree Light in the Water Color Series is a Photo Illustration.
